Afrikaans name: Grootflamink
The Greater Flamingo is found in Africa, Asia and southern Europe.
This flamingo can be up to 1.5 metres tall and weigh up to 4 kg.
Flamingos would be white if it wasn't for the pink colouring that comes from the organisms that they feed on.
These birds make a mound out of the mud for a nest and they lay one egg.
The Greater Flamingo can be found over most of South Africa, in suitable habitat, except for the eastern Cape.
