The city of Benoni has its roots in the gold-mining industry. As the yield from mines has decreased it has developed other industries and services. Despite being so built up Benoni still has many properties that keep horses.

There are a number of things to do in and around Benoni. Shopping is high on many visitors lists and a visit to the Lakeside Shopping Mall, which is designed in the shape of a Mississippi Steamboat, is well worthwhile. Other shopping centres include Northmead Square. Benoni is also known for its many lakes. Kids will enjoy a trip to the Bunny Park which is located near Northmead Square. History lovers will enjoy a trip to the local museum. Other interesting places to visit include the Benoni Art Route, Uncle Tim's Cabin known for its antiques and The Crucible which is home to a glass-blowing business.

The East Rand Car Show normally takes place on the first Saturday in June.

Birders will find a number of good birding spots within an easy drive of the city, including Rondebult Bird Sanctuary.

If you are looking for accommodation in Benoni then a quick search on Google or Bing will show you many options ranging from hotels to B&B's.
