Just south of Amanzimtoti lies the little coastal town of Warner Beach. The town itself extends inland beyond the N2 highway. Durban is only 30 minutes’ drive north of Warner Beach. The town is part of the greater Kingsburgh area and has Winkelspruit to the south and Doonside to the north.

The town is a popular tourist destination. The main attraction in the area is the beach itself, as well as a safe swimming area. It is a popular surfing and fishing spot. Other water sports enjoyed here include kite surfing, scuba diving, canoeing and paddle skiing. You will also see a number of people enjoying a leisurely walk along the beach or perhaps going for a run. Surfers often refer to this beach as Baggies Beach.

Every winter thousands of people anxiously wait for news of the famous sardine run. This amazing natural event involves millions of sardine fish heading north along the coast. Parts of the shoal often “beach” at various places along the coast and they are scooped up in vast quantities by fisherman, locals and onlookers.

The first developments in the area date back to 1910 when the government allocated a new residential area that was specifically aimed at pensioners. The area was surveyed by a surveyor named Warner and so the area came to be named after him.
