The town is on the edge of a beautiful salt-water lagoon and is well-known for its white sandy beaches. The lagoon is part of Saldanha Bay.

The Langebaan area is popular with nature-lovers especially for bird-watchers and for its spring flowers. Whales may be sighted during early summer. The lagoon is also a great place for fishing and other water-sports.

Langebaan is fairly unique in that the town does not allow any industries to be sited nearby. This helps to keep it aimed at holiday-makers and retired people.
