Andriesvale, Northern Cape

Afrikaans name: Andriesvale

Andriesvale is a small community near the southernmost point of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. It is a stones throw from Bokspits which is in Botswana.

The surrounding countryside is arid with little vegetation and a lot of sand dunes! Roads head off in all directions from Andriesvale. The R31 heads west to Rietfontein which is 70 km away. The R361 heads east some 14 km to Askham. One can head south-west to Koopan Suid and further onto Obobogorap. If you head north you will arrive at the Twee Rivieren entrance to the Kalahari Gemsbok National Park.

There are a number of accommodation options in the region around Andriesvale. These include Vischgat Game Lodge, Uruke Bush Camp, Kgalagadi Nature Reserve Camp site, Kalahari Sands Guest House and Molopo Lodge.

The temperatures in this area vary widely. During winter it is cool, but it can drop below freezing overnight. In summer the temperature can peak at 40 degrees C.

Andriesvale fell in the Mier Local Municipality which, in terms of population, was the smallest municipality in South Africa. In 2016 the Mier Municipality was combined with the //Khara Hais Local Municipality to form the Dawid Kruiper Local Municipality. This municipality covers an area of over 44,000 square kilometres and has a population of just over 100,000.
