Bergville is a small town that was originally founded in 1897. Its first name was Bergville Mountain Village. It lies in the foothills of the nearby Drakensberg Mountains. The Tugela River flows through the outskirts of the town.

A number of interesting activities can be undertaken in the area. These include horse-riding, battlefield tours, kayaking, river-rafting and birding. Spioenkop Game Reserve and Woodstock Dam are also nearby. A scenic drive can be taken over Oliviershoek Pass into the Free State. An old British fort now serves as a museum.

There are a number of guest houses where one can stay in Bergville. There is also a municipal caravan and camping park. My recommendation would be to choose one of the many accommodation options that are available in the surrounding regions.

The area around the town has many beef and dairy farms. Maize is also an important crop grown here.
